Search engine giant Google is being sued by internet payment firm Paypal over claims that Google stole technology for its latest smartphone application 'Google Wallet'.
PayPal, which is owned by eBay, was sued just hours after the product was launched in New York, the Daily Mail reports.
According to PayPal, former executives Osama Bedier and Stephenie Tilenius, who joined Google, sold trade secrets to the internet giant.
Smartphone application Google Wallet turns the smartphone into a virtual wallet through which users can make payments for their purchases. They can also store credit cards, offers, loyalty cards and gifts cards using it.
PayPal has not released such a system yet; however, it claims to have spent three years trying to secure a deal under which it would create a Near Field Communication system for Android. They claim Google launched the rival product before the dead was struck.
According to the DailyMail, the evidence against Google could be damaging for the company; however, the NFC technology itself hasn’t been invented by either side, which is promising for Google.
The lawsuit is likely to be settled out-of-court, it said.
