Here are our favourite smartphone apps for letting you know when you've fallen off the healthy-eating bandwagon - and a few that might help you jump back on.
1. Nutrition Genius (Free)
This is like having a nutritionist watching you with eagle eyes when you go to scoff that second dinner. It will work out how many calories you are allowed per day and if you are honest with it about what you are eating, it will let you know when you've been a piglet.

2. MyFood - Nutrition Facts (Free)Really useful if you are controlling your intake of vitamins and minerals. It lists details about the nutritional make-up of everything from artichoke to zucchini and makes eating a balanced diet that bit easier. Think nutrition for dummies.
3. Drinkfit ($2.49)
Not all drinks are created equal and many a health-nut has had their good deeds derailed by a night on the turps. This app will tell you the total fat, carbohydrates and kilojoules in your cocktail and keeps a list of how many drinks you have each night. The downside: could make a hangover that much more depressing.
4. Perfect Produce ($2.49)
This is a great app to take grocery shopping. It tells you what is in season and what fruits and vegies should look and feel like. The collection of recipes within the app then solves the problem of what to do with your haul.
5. 170,000+ Recipes (Free)
Compatible with either the iPhone or iPad, this app will give you licence to chuck out that pile of dusty cookbooks. Our favourite feature is that you can search by ingredients, giving those of us with no culinary creativity a chance to look in the pantry and come up with something that is edible.
6. Superfood HD ($1.19)
If you missed our A-Z guide to superfoods, this app will fill you in on the basics. It is both a reference tool, to teach you about why a fig will be better for you than a pack of salt and vinegar chips, as well as a collection of weird and wonderful recipes.
7. EatingWell Healthy in a Hurry (Free)
When you have less than an hour to cook something that resembles a healthy meal, this app is a lifesaver. The 200 recipes each take less than 45 minutes to prepare and won't have you hanging your head in shame after cleaning up.
8. Allergy Free Entertaining ($5.99)
This takes all the drama out of cooking for friends with specific dietary requirements. Next time your vegan, gluten-intolerant, sugar-free mate drops by, you can tick off their alimentary needs and whip up a main and dessert before they can say: ''But …''
9. Meal Snap ($3.99)
Think Shazam for your plate. This is as fun as it is informative - you take a photo of what is on your plate and it estimates how many calories you are about to consume. If you are a fan of overshare, this app also lets you share your pictures on Facebook and Twitter.
10. Daily Burn (varying price)
This is for those of you who want to get really militant about what you eat, how much you exercise and how fit you are. It has everything - kilojoule counter, nutrition guide, training plan and it charts your progress. It's like having a team of annoying motivators just a tap away.
