The company, which unveiled the 10-inch tablet at the Computex trade show, first plans to make the device available in Taiwan followed by a US launch. The tablet will be available for $700 with the optical drive available separately.
The S1080 comes with some hefty specs and functions. The device comes with a 10-inch capacitive touchscreen powered by 2GB of RAM and Intel’s Atom N570 processor. Gigabyte has thrown a 320 GB hard disk into the mix as well. The tablet is powered by a 4,000 mAh battery with an optional extra 2.700 mAh battery.
What's great about the device is the multiple connectivity options that come with it. The tablet comes with a USB 2.0 port, a USB 3.0 port, SD card reader and support for bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G.
Gigabyte will also offer a multimedia dock for the tablet that will allow users to connect audio speakers, VGA output, three USB 2.0 ports and audio line-in. The most striking feature is the support for optical drive, a first for tablets.
The Computex Expo has seen a number of new tablets debut as competition in the tablet market intensifies.
